There are several things to consider when adopting low code platforms, particularly Power Platform. Here are the top 5 mistakes and misconceptions when considering low code and Power Platform and how to avoid them.
1. It’s not just an app, it’s a Platform.
Many organisations assume Power Platform are just for making “An App” for solving a business problem. This is not the case; it has much wider capabilities, full of amazing tools that can be used to solve multiple business problems. Sure, buying a “Per App” license is possible, but that’s just the start. We don’t buy Microsoft Office to send one email or create one excel document; we use Office as a set of tools. Power Platform is no different.
2. Governance!
Organisations love the idea of implementing a set of tools to create applications and automation, but one of the most critical areas to implement is a governance layer. This focuses on setting up the digital guardrails and processes which protect your organisation. The goal of a low code platform is to provide a “Go To” set of tools that anyone in your ecosystem can leverage.
3. Power Platform isn’t being used in our business.
This is a common misconception even within many IT departments, and it’s a misconception because Power Platform is part of Microsoft Office, Azure, and the business applications stack. Most organisations that think Power Platform is not being leveraged normally get a bit of a surprise when we show them the default environment. You cannot disable this or turn it off, and most of the time, we find apps and flows in there, already being leveraged by the business.
4. Low code is easy and only for simple projects.
Low code provides a prebuilt set of digital building bricks that can be used to solve multiple problems of varying complexity. Many businesses run their organisations on low code platforms. Just because it says low code does not mean it is low complexity.
5. Low code is only for expert developers.
Low code tools are made for makers of all skill levels! Whether you are an experienced developer or someone who wants to get started, you can use low code.
