South Yorkshire Police increases its data and analytics capabilities

South Yorkshire Police has partnered with leading digital transformation provider and data and AI specialist, ANS, to implement a modern data platform in Microsoft Azure and mature its data and analytics capability to enable it to gain further insight across a number of areas.

South Yorkshire Police has previously utilised data reporting solutions such as PowerBI to deliver its analysis needs, however, the force identified a need to develop this capability further. Following a comprehensive procurement process, ANS was awarded the initial 12-month contract.

A modern data platform will allow South Yorkshire Police to:

  1. Support improved business reporting and strategic decision making – developing a new organisational data and analytics capability that is currently not possible.
  2. Develop a transformed culture where data quality, continuous improvement, and removing unneeded manual processes matters – including fixing issues in core systems and processes, ensuring that any ‘work arounds’ are temporary and fixed in the system.
  3. A place to go where there is one trusted version of the truth – storing information and data in one reporting solution.
  4. Deliver data and insight faster, to those who need it – such as policing on the frontline and specialised teams.

Chris Hampson, Policing Lead at ANS, said: “The maturing of data and analytics capabilities within UK policing will deliver insight that has real-world impact, protecting citizens and helping police forces to deliver better citizen engagement than ever before. We are excited to work alongside the South Yorkshire team, and we are looking forward to the long list of use cases we will deliver together through the Data Centre of Excellence service.”
