Which version of Microsoft SQL Server do I need?¶
Microsoft currently offer two different methods of licensing your MSSQL Server: Per user or per Core licensing.
As well as the two licensing models available, four different versions of MSSQL are also available.
Developer - The Full Feature set of the Enterprise version, but for test and development only.
Express - Free to use with a maximum database size of 10GB and capped to utilise only 1GB of RAM and 4 CPU cores.
Standard - The standard edition features a comprehensive feature set, had a maximum database size of 524PB and can utilise 128GB of RAM and 24 CPU cores
Enterprise - The fully Featured edition of MSSQL with extra features designed to have improved security, performance and scale with the ability to utilise unlimited CPU cores, Operating System Max RAM and a database size cap of 524PB
