ANS & Sheffield City Council: Delivering managed data platform and security services
Background
Sheffield City Council is the local authority for the City of Sheffield, employing around 8,500 people to provide services including housing, public health, neighbourhood services and community services.
The Challenge
Like many councils, Sheffield City Council faces challenges with continuing to deliver services to customers amid funding constraints. As part of a bold digital strategy and customer experience strategy, the council set out a series of transformation initiatives to enhance its IT infrastructure and data capabilities to deliver great quality, reliable, consistent IT to empower its staff, as well as provide more user-friendly digital services to customers.
The Solution
Following a Cloud Readiness Assessment, ANS migrated Sheffield City Council’s data centre to a hybrid cloud environment. As part of Sheffield City Council’s managed services agreement, ANS manages the council’s data platform and provides a 24/7/365 Security Operations Center (SOC) to defend against cybersecurity threats.
The Outcome
This engagement between ANS and Sheffield City Council is a key driver of the council’s data strategy. Sheffield City Council see data as an enabler of better service delivery, so having a managed data platform is helping the council gain a holistic view of its customers and better understanding them as individuals, not just consumers of services.
